The 'personality' section should be at least a few decently-sized paragraphs, to give us an idea of what the character is like. Try to consider their strengths and weaknesses, as well as how curious they are. If they're the naturally inquisitive type, the mods can put exploration plots forth for you.

The writing sample could be a link to a thread, a request to thread with a mod, or a prose sample. It must be in prose, but other than that the sky's the limit.

Rules and Fine Print:
1. Players may introduce one new character per month.
2. We have a soft cap of five characters per player - however, if you are active with all five of your existing characters, we will consider sixth and seventh characters on a case by case basis.
3. Canon characters and fandom/non-fandom OC's are allowed. AU's, including both canon AU's and fan-made AU's are allowed. Fan-made AU's must show significant understanding of how the changes in the AU have affected the character.
4. Should you choose to, you may skip the jamjar setting restraints and app in an AU of your character who has always existed in the Winter universe. Please contact the mods about this, as we would be delighted to help you design a history for your character that makes sense for the setting and satisfies you.
5. One player apping multiple characters from the same canon will be considered on a case by case basis. If the characters have close CR, you can't play both as you're setting yourself up for selfcest.
6. Doubles of the same character (for example, Spider-Man from Marvel 616 and Spider-Man from the Marvel Movies) will be considered on a case-by-case basis. They must be significantly different from each other and both players must be alright with it.
7. No historical figures unless they're significantly different than the actual historical figure (for example, Abraham Lincoln the Vampire Slayer is okay, but Abraham Lincoln just as a president is not).
8. All characters must be humanized. This doesn't have to mean they think they're human (they can believe they are and have the powers of a space elf, if you want), but their physical bodies will be human.

A note about importing CR: unless the other halves of your CR are apping into the game, we reserve the right to ask you to revise your character's in-game history so those characters are expies. For example, if your character had CR with Jean Grey in a prior game, we may ask that your character actually knew Jane Greene, so as not to infomod future Jean Grey players or spring an unexpected castmate on them. If someone apps in the other half of your CR, you must get their okay to have that CR remembered, and if the player declines then the CR your character remembers must remain expied.

Please post here! Your comment will be screened and the mods will get back to you within three days. We will probably pull you into a private chat/plurk/email so we can work out with you directly how your characters' powers or items will work in the game, or to configure your backstory if you're apping a game AU. Your comment will be unscreened after approval.

Character Name: Hidari Shoutarou
Character Canon: Kamen Rider W
Character Journal: [personal profile] thisclinchesit
Canon Point Character is Taken From: Beginning of Episode 49
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): Y, Trans9
If OC, a brief summary of their history and personality: N/A
If fan-made AU, what has changed in your character's history? What changes has the AU made to your character's personality? These changes, both to the canon and to the character's personality, must be significant enough to qualify as needing an AU. N/A

Personality: Shoutarou describes himself as a 'hard-boiled' detective, trying to project the facade of a man who is cold to the world - too cool to show emotions. In reality, Shoutarou fails at keeping this facade up, and winds up getting emotionally involved in most of his cases, thus causing those who know him well to jokingly refer to him as 'half-boiled'. This desire to be a hard-boiled detective stems from his negligence causing the death of his mentor, private investigator Sokichi Narumi.

Shoutarou has a sharp mind, and is rather emotional and intuitive. He gets very invested in the plights of his clients, as he's pledged to stop anyone who would make his city of Fuuto cry. Seeing anyone who is in trouble start to cry is enough to push Shoutarou over the edge, causing him to go to any length to defend them, even at risk to himself. He's very much a white knight in that sense, eager to come to the aid of others. He's got a great sense of pride - he aims to be a great man, a man worthy of wearing his mentor's fedora, and has recently felt that he's reached that level of worth.

In addition, Shoutarou can get very, very attached to people once he gets to know them well enough, shown by how badly he took his mentor's death as well as how deeply involved he'll get into his cases for his clients. It's also shown by how strong his bond is to Philip, who he has been charged with protecting by Sokichi as he died. He's also rather protective of Akiko, the daughter of Sokichi who came to take over the detective agency sometime shortly after Sokichi's death.

Shoutarou is also an absolute sucker for a pretty woman, abandoning logic and common sense to do all he can to help and/or impress a lady. This includes turning the hard-boiled act up to 11. However, he does it rather obviously, and is himself oblivious to how hamfisted he's being. However, he's yet to get a negative reaction from it from anyone other than Akiko.

Outside of work, Shoutarou is pretty laid-back. He still tries to keep up the hard-boiled demeanor, but like with his work, he fails at it here, too. Most times that he's not doing work, he's usually kicking back in the office, hanging around with Akiko and Philip, or out and about, hanging out with one or more of his local friends. He enjoys detective fiction (of course), and is shown to own a copy of The Long Goodbye. At one point, Akiko gets him into a period drama series about samurai quite by accident. Contrary to his attempts to stay cool, Shoutarou is very animated in the way he expresses himself, almost cartoonish in the way he reacts in extremes to things that shock him or catch him off-guard. He's also got a fondness for ramen.

Writing Sample: Being emo over Philip disappearing yet again in T9, and being at the scene of the crime when Sherlock Holmes got stabbed.

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): Shoutarou is shown to have a good grasp of hand-to-hand combat, as well as being able to work out tactics on the fly, as in the penultimate episode of the series, Shoutarou faced off with the final big bad of the series (Utopia Dopant) with nothing but his wits and a small collection of gadget robots. Shoutarou managed to reasonably damage the Utopia Dopant and blow up the laboratory he was working in. In this instance, though, Shoutarou was pushed to the edge by his guilt and fear of losing his partner, Philip.

Using a device known as the Lost Driver, Shoutarou can use the Joker Gaia Memory (A Gaia Memory is a small USB drive-like device that grants the user specific powers) to form Kamen Rider Joker. Shoutarou plugs his Joker Gaia Memory in the belt's Memory slot and activates the transformation sequence by pushing the Memory slot away from the center of the buckle.

Shoutarou has two other Gaia Memories on-hand, as well as the Double Driver. The Double Driver is a two-memory version of the Lost Driver that he normally used with Phillip to become Kamen Rider Double. He keeps it on-hand, holding on to a hope that Philip will someday come back.

The Joker Gaia Memory improves Shoutarou's fighting capability in hand-to-hand combat, and grants the ability to do an energy-enhanced flying kick and high-powered punch Maximum Drive. If used with the Double Driver, it gives Double similar fighting capability, enhanced by Philip's Soul Memories, which enhance the abilities of Shoutarou's other two memories as well.

The Metal Gaia Memory improves Double's defense and strength while sacrificing speed, granting Double an etendable metal staff for melee combat. The staff has a Maximum Drive slot in it.

Trigger: This Gaia Memory gives Double a pistol for ranged combat, while high on power, it's low on defense. The pistol has a Maximum Drive slot, and the memory used with it determines the kind of projectile fired.

In theory, Shoutarou could use the Metal and Trigger memories with the Lost Driver to become Kamen Rider Metal or Trigger, but he's never shown doing so.
Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: Stuff from Canon: Mick the cat, Lost Driver, Double Driver, Gaia Memories (Joker, Metal, Trigger), Memory Gadgets (Stag Phone, Spider Shock, Bat Shot, Denden Sensor), HardBoilder motorcycle, one long-worn fedora, one hardly-worn fedora.
Stuff from Trans9: Set of clothes, Besel the cat, Omnicomm, miscellaneous trinkets picked up from others.

Character Name: Deneb
Character Canon: Kamen Rider Den-O
Character Journal: [personal profile] debudeneb
Canon Point Character is Taken From: After the events of the Kamen Rider Den-O & Kiva: Climax Deka movie.
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): N
If OC, a brief summary of their history and personality: N/A
If fan-made AU, what has changed in your character's history? What changes has the AU made to your character's personality? These changes, both to the canon and to the character's personality, must be significant enough to qualify as needing an AU. N/A

Personality: Deneb is a softhearted, nurturing stay-at-home mom who just so happens to be a magical sand ghost from the future. Though he was originally created for the purposes of destroying the future, Deneb instead chose to devote himself to fighting his fellow Imagin by assisting and caring for Sakurai Yuuto/Kamen Rider Zeronos, a young time traveler determined to protect the timeline. Since then, Deneb has been at Yuuto’s side constantly, cooking his meals, trying to convince Yuuto to make friends, and apologizing profusely for Yuuto’s antisocial behavior.

Though Deneb cares deeply for his charge, he often expresses his affection in ways that outright anger Yuuto, such as trying to sneak shiitake mushrooms (a food Yuuto despises) into his dinner or possessing Yuuto’s body at night and doing good deeds so that people will remember Yuuto as a kindly young man rather than a scowling teenage angstmuppet. While apologizing for Yuuto’s behavior, Deneb will often claim that “in his heart, Yuuto wants to be friends!” or “in his heart, Yuuto wants to apologize!”, a story that no one who knows Yuuto actually buys. For his part, Yuuto appears to be wildly embarrassed by Deneb’s attempts to frame him as a friendly, well-adjusted individual, and almost invariably subjects Deneb to violent pro-wrestling moves to make him stop. Deneb, on the other hand, eternally soldiers on, even carrying around special candy so he can hand them out and try to bribe people to be Yuuto’s friends.

Polite and cheery at all times, Deneb is a skilled cook who specializes in Japanese dishes and enjoys frequenting grocery stores for sales. Although he can be physically clumsy when distracted, prone to spilling drinks on someone when nervous enough, Deneb is quick to apologize when he does something wrong and also appears to be talented in removing stains from clothing/other household tasks. He is easily moved by a touching story, loves animals, and dislikes lying to people (and, in fact, appears to be rather inept at deception, as his attempts to fool Yuuto into eating healthy food or sneak it into their shopping cart invariably fail).

Deneb is so kindhearted that he’ll stop on the street and spend all night next to a young woman sleeping on a park bench to make sure she doesn’t catch a cold, and so polite he doesn’t even take offense to being called derogatory nicknames by the other Imagin. He is, however, ever ready to protect his friend, regularly throwing himself in harm’s way to prevent Yuuto from having to fight dangerous battles. Moreover, on the few occasions in which Deneb becomes convinced that he's failed Yuuto (by making Yuuto use up a precious power resource, for instance), Deneb becomes despondent and weepy, often concocting plans to 'make up' for it that more often than not make the situation worse. Though he's a bit of a doormat, Deneb's cheerful, friendly disposition make him popular with many people, even people from ancient Japan who don't seem to mind his monstrous Imagin appearance and instead bring him cooking ingredients to "help him out".

Writing Sample: Deneb gives candy to strangers

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): Without Yuuto and his Zeronos cards, Deneb's abilities are somewhat limited. He can either possess a human body (usually Yuuto's), giving him moderately superhuman increases in fighting skill and strength, or he can abandon his host and assume his Imagin form, which is stronger, faster, and more durable than an ordinary human. In this form, he is also capable of firing exploding bullets out of his fingers.

Also in his Imagin form, he is capable of combining with a Kamen Rider's armor to enhance their powers and change their appearance. For example, by combining with Deneb, Kamen Rider Zeronos can access his Vega form, with increased strength and shoulder-mounted guns (which are actually made up of Deneb's finger guns). Kamen Rider New Den-O can combine with Deneb to access a special weapon configuration which is otherwise unavailable to him.

Here is a wiki link.
Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: A grocery bag full of things like radishes and shiitake mushrooms. Also his clothes. And a basket full of candy.

Character Name: Percy Weasley
Character Canon: Harry Potter
Character Journal: [personal profile] humongousbighead
Canon Point Character is Taken From: Between books 2 and 3, right after receiving his Head Boy badge and Hermes at Diagon Alley.
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): N
Personality:

Percy is one of those obnoxious people who thrives on rules and regulations for rules and regulations' sake. He values routine and order and hard work, and disdains idleness, excessive playfulness, and lightheartedness. Basically, Percy is a giant wet blanket with no sense of humor most of the time, although under certain circumstances (such as teenage infatuation) he can be drawn out of his shell long enough to gamble money he doesn't have.

This is not to say, however, that Percy is without his merits. Both hard-working and intelligent, Percy is an overachiever who generally has good intentions. Having been sorted into Gryffindor, the sorting house saw bravery in him, and it is true that Percy has the mettle to stand his ground against even his own family. Percy straddles the line between stubborn and pigheaded, often falling onto the pigheaded side, but his adherence to his principles can be a valuable trait.

He is not a very social person, preferring instead the company of books and adults that he can learn from and improve himself with. Books, after all, don't talk back when you try to make them do something (usually), and adults tend to appreciate the hard work he puts into his studies and enforcing the rules. He tends to shut himself up in his room and doesn't appear to have any close friends, although deep down he loves his family.

In groups of people Percy comes across as self-satisfied, sanctimonious and humorless, and as such he is not a very popular student with his peers. While he desires the respect of his peers, he doesn't really crave their liking, and doesn't seem to feel any regrets that he isn't close to any of them. He more regrets that none of them are more like him, studious and orderly.

Percy is slow to forgive, especially himself. When upset he can be explosive and tends to raise his voice, trying to hammer his points home. He is haughty and proud, though not without reason. He can be short-sighted and myopic, often seeing things in a context of how they affect him rather than the greater good, but when push comes to shove he will choose to do the right, brave thing - eventually.

Character Name: Ellyn Vitner
Character Canon: Original
Character Journal: [personal profile] combustible_me
Canon Point Character is Taken From: After body plot ended in T9.
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): Y, Transmigration 9
If OC, a brief summary of their history: Ellyn Vitner was born and raised to power: specifically, the power of pyromancy. Born of two of the greatest mages her world had ever seen, she was sent to the Elemental College, away from her older brother and sister, and her parents, and expected to hold her own.

She exceeded expectations, and returned far more than secure in her pyromancy, having repeated her father's feat of defeating all four of the Grandmasters of the Academy, being named a master herself. The triumph was short-lived, as her father promptly took her on a whirlwind tour of his holdings, and threw her into the running thereof. Ellyn didn't give a crap about any of that--as the youngest child, she hardly expected to hold the reins of anything, much less the kingdom of a ridiculously powerful mage-king like Athros Vitner. But when her brother Eiros discovered that the way their mother had come to their world was by being murdered, that spurred her to action along with her brother. They planned to go to Idastria, and avenge their mother.

However, upon arrival, Ellyn found that instead of being where she thought she'd end up, she was on the ship Stacy, and informed that her world had been destroyed. That didn't sit well with her, so she basically joined the crew and had a number of wacky adventures before she THOUGHT she was repodded...

Personality: Ellyn takes no crap and makes no apologies for it. She can be brusque to the point of rudeness, sometimes without intending to be so. Most of the time she is a woman of few words, watching and smoking a cigar as things pass around her--but if action is called for she's quick to move. When a word will do, she won't hold back.

When something interests her, Ellyn can be intensely focused, concentrating on that thing until she's exhausted her interest in it--basically consumed it. At first, she doesn't seem very friendly--angry, perhaps resigned, offended by someone's presence--but if she's warmed to an individual there is a gruff sort of caring that said person is subjected to. She doesn't consider herself a good person to come to for advice, but if asked, Ellyn will give her unbiased and unvarnished opinion--for good or ill.

Like her father, Athros, pyromancy was something Ellyn was always interested in--since she was a child it was a given that she would grow up and grow into those powers. The rigors of training actually calmed her down a little--before that, she was like a kid with ADHD on a permanent sugar high.

Despite the bombastic nature of pyromancy and its many potential military applications, Ellyn has no great love for unnecessary fighting or killing. While the knowledge that she CAN blow the hell out of things if needed is a comforting one, the idea of killing for its own sake holds no great worth or attraction to her.

Writing Sample: Ellyn isn't too great at that empathy thing.

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): Ellyn Vitner is a pyromancer. By the virtue of her training, she is able to become that element; flashing from fully human to fully fire is as easy as breathing to her. It is less control over flame, exactly, and more control over heat and light, but it tends to manifest as flame. The more skilled you are as a pyromancer, the greater your control over how you release heat and light. Fireballs are easy, precise control is hard. Also, with more skill, the easier it is to put your body in an state between 'all fire' and 'all human'. If injured, it's reflex for a pyromancer to shift to fire because fire is unlikely to be injured by a pointy object For similar reasons, it's also difficult (but not impossible) for a pyromancer to get drunk or be drugged, though it isn't absolutely necessary for them to shift to fire to "shake it off", so to speak.

Another useful technique is the ability to "unburn" things; Trouble, Ellyn's greatsword, is usually carried in the state of a thermal energy signature that she can reconstitute with energy and will. It isn't a fast process, nor can things be infinitely burnt and stored to be unburnt later.

Ellyn has surpassed her father in one instance: he cannot absorb and redirect lightning strikes, whether conjured or natural. Ellyn can do both, though the first instance of her expressing this ability left her with scars. (She and Eiros were fighting, and Eiros cast lightning at her.)

The downside to all this is that the elemental opposition still works. Even in human form, being in water is not a pleasant experience for Ellyn. Being dropped in an ocean is pretty much a death sentence if she can't escape. Lesser amounts tend to be little more than a brief ache in human form, but it is possible for pyromancers to drown just like normal humans.

Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: Trouble, her greatsword, two boxes of stinky cigars, two crimson silk robes embroidered with golden flames, black leather armor and boots, and a tiny white bat.

Character Name: Lady Maydril val Mandrian
Character Canon: Original
Character Journal: [personal profile] drowpaladin
Canon Point Character is Taken From: A year after preventing Al Shiana's secession.
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): Yes, Transmigration 9.
If OC, a brief summary of their history: Maydril val Mandrian is the firstborn child of a landless Knight; Nicholas val Mandrian, the ambassadorial envoy to a bustling nexus-point city, and Phaelirra Arabani, a former noble drow female. She spent her early childhood either being taken to the Temple of the Dark Lady of the Dance, where her mother served as handmaiden (and she was doted on by all the drow females), or spending time at her father's knee, watching and learning about diplomacy. She excelled at her basic studies--languages, arithmatic, that sort of thing. On her fourth birthday, her parents gifted her with a practice blade, and between the Temple weaponsmasters and the Embassy's swordsmen, she began to learn the art of warfare.

At the age of twelve, she was Tested, to see where her magical abilities lay, if she possessed any at all. She had already mastered the little magic of faerie fire instilled by her Drow heritage. Maydril was found to have the abilities of a Paladin, like her father before her, and thus was made squire to the Paladin Lord, Lady Erzebet von Rioght. She spent a year learning the intricacies of her new magic at the knee of the Paladin Lord, before it was arranged for her to be sent to the Knights Academy in Servryn. This is where she met Everry von Dalis, a White Knight squire of no small talent. Maydril was smitten instantly, while Everry was certain that he was not the one her interest was in, but his older brother, Farren, another Paladin.

It took her a year to convince Everry that he was wrong. Unfortunately, by that time, one of the smaller Anberan counties was threatening to secede from the Kingdom. Nicholas, Maydril's father, was arranging to send her back home for her own safety, while he and Lady Erzebet would go to al Shiana county and attempt to quell the disturbance there. Maydril refused to go home, arguing that it might be a good chance to see if she could use what she'd been taught. Her father acquiesced, and while the adults worked to have diplomatic concessions made, Maydril met the crown prince. He, to her chagrin, was smitten, and to the uproar of his court and his mother, the Queen Regent, attempted to woo Maydril. She wasn't thrilled about the prospect, either. After a good bit of rebuffing and the appearance of the daughter of al Siana county's lord, May set the prince and the girl up. Luckily for her, they hit it off. Their betrothal paved the way for a peace accord between the Kingdom of Anberas and its rogue county, preventing the secession.

It almost seemed an anticlimax to return to the capital city and resume her studies, but that she did, despite (what she believes is) a strange dream of a ship that travelled through the stars, and its claim that her world was destroyed. How could she still be at the Academy, if that had happened? Concerned about her sanity, she contacted the Warmaster, Andrian de Veris, who was also talented in the Psi school. After a thorough, discreet examination, he assured Maydril that she wasn't going insane. He did not tell her that those "dreams" seemed to be intact memories, however, as he had no way of explaining that.

Personality: Descended from Servryn nobility, Maydril takes her role as a Knight seriously (even if it's a future Knight). People are important to her. That said, she's still a teenager, which means she has immature moments, wants to have fun, and sometimes shows off a bit. She isn't as carefree as her father Nicholas was before he was cursed--nor is she as dour and serious as her drow mother, Phaelirra. Her serious mien is drawn from her mother's influence, though. At heart, May is, or tries to be, a good, moral person, trying to do what she views as right. While she is devout and worships the goddess Elee, being a follower of the goddess of idealism means the path can be a solitary one, discouraging proselytizing.

Maydril is very friendly at heart. She tends to believe there's good in everyone, until they prove her wrong (and oh, the disappointment!). She hasn't precisely been sheltered all her life, but being a young noble lady and a squire, she's been a bit more protected than a young person without her rank would be. When overwhelmed, she can be rather shy and retreat into herself, but if May feels comfortable, she is gentle, sweet, and kind.

Writing Sample: Anything to make that sale...

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): Paladins of Servryn have three different 'schools' of magical ability. Life, Psi, and Holy. At sixteen, Maydril has a firm grasp on the basics. This means that under Life magic, she can do some body alteration, minor shapeshifting, and a good amount of healing. She has done deep studying into the healing abilities the Life school grants, practically specializing in that. She should be able to speak to animals and plants as well, but she has had no real results speaking to plants. Animals, on the other hand, are easier to understand for her. She's been practicing.

The extent of her knowledge of Psi magic is a solid ability with her own mental shields, telepathy, and empathy. She has gained training in hostile projection, but prefers to use that sort of thing only when necessary. She can mentally "shout" to disorient someone, but obviously that would only work on something or someone with a brain. Unfortunately, the practices of telekinesis are still beyond her.

Maydril's Holy magic knowledge extends mostly to shields against offensive magic or physical attacks. She can enchant her own and other items with Holy magic, though only her own items will have any degree of permanence. (Others' would last, say, a scene at best.) She also has knowledge of blessings of various types, notably against other types of Knightly magic. Since the other three schools are Elemental, Black, and Death magic, there's probably some cover for many of the spells other characters might be using. Then again, May's abilities are intermediate at best, so it's doubtful she'd be winning any magical battles any time soon. Most Holy (and Black and Death) spells involve spell invocations for casting. Life and Psi involve meditation. Elemental uses a complex rune-building system. Maydril's powers are strictly under Life, Holy, and Psi though, because as a Paladin she cannot access the other three schools at all.

Because her mother was of drow nobility, Maydril has two magic-like abilities. She can levitate for short periods of time. This would be handy if she, say, had to jump off a three or four story building, but would not be likely to work off of anything larger. Or she's going to wind up hurt. In theory, she's supposed to be able to float up with it as well. However, she's not convinced she can, despite seeing full-blooded drow, males and females, doing so. Her second ability is faerie fire, which is mostly useful in darkness like a sort of light-based smoke flare. She did use it to light up the lace on the Duchess of al Shiana's dress, and make the Crown Prince of Anberas notice her. In short, it's not a damaging ability.

As a half-elf, her senses are a bit better than a normal human's. She is immune to sleep spells, but psionic attacks or a good old rap to the back of the head will knock her out easily.

Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: Full suit of armor including padding beneath, two-handed sword, backpack with whetstone, a canteen, eating knife, flint and steel, iron pot, and a week's worth of unimpressive travel rations.

Character Canon: Harry Potter

Canon Point Character is Taken From: During her Sixth Year at Hogwarts.

Personality: Lily is portrayed in the books as having strong, unshakable morals. She isn't the sort that believes in grey areas, though she did her best to be understanding to her once best friend Severus Snape for years. In the end, she just couldn't take it. When she ended her friendship with said Slytherin, she felt...sad. And relieved. The guilt she felt every time she had to explain his actions (or inactions) to her Gryffindor dorm-mates had finally come to an end. Yet she also lost her best friend; the boy who had shown her the Wizarding World in the first place.

Needless to say, it was a rough decision and not one made lightly. However, she has stuck to her guns and shown how strong and decisive she can be. Yet that shouldn't be terribly surprising. Lily is not a weak-willed girl. When her temper is riled, she can be downright obstinate and snarky (as seen when she goads Severus after her calls her a Mudblood).

But there is another side to Lily. She can be (and usually is) exceptionally kind. She takes it upon herself to look after her friends and family and she has, on more than one occasion, been a confidante to those that need a shoulder to cry on/someone to listen to them. Her kindness when it comes to those who ask or need her help is the main prompter for her deciding to enter the Order of the Phoenix after graduating. (However she doesn't know about the Order yet.)

Lastly, Lily is a focused and intelligent student. She takes her education seriously and prides herself on being a Witch. It hurts her (far more than she lets on) when someone belittles her parentage, bloodline and/or pursuits/achievements in Hogwarts. Yet she refuses to let anything bring her down or hold her back. She is eager to enter the Wizarding World and leave her mark - what that mark might be, she doesn't know, but she does knows it will include fighting against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Writing Sample: The Common Room was a bloody mess. Lily had to wonder why she - along with the other Prefects - had okayed a party to celebrate the conclusion of their exams. Wizard crackers, bits of wrapping paper as well as the presents that had been sealed inside of said wrapping paper were scattered around the room. There was even a...salamander?...in the fireplace. Lily worried briefly about it until it started crawling around in the flames. From what she could see it looked...happy.

"You seem like you're in your element." she smirked and added another log to the fire, "Enjoy."

She then turned her attention to the aforementioned mess. Waving her wand, she swept the trash into one pile and anything that looked semi-useful into another pile. With that done, she focused on scrubbing any and all surfaces free of food crumbs, drink spills and...potion stains?

"I wonder if I should do a head count. If someone has been turned into a rat or a..." she turned back towards the fireplace, arching a brow, "Huh."

Approaching the flames, Lily knelt down and levitated the salamander towards her. She didn't dare use a cooling spell. That might kill the poor creature. But if this was a student - however unlikely - she needed to make sure.

"Finite Incantatum."

The salamander blinked up at her. No effect.

"Well that's comforting." she nodded and gently levitated the salamander back to the flames, "I'm glad you're just a salamander."

And a cute one at that.

"Mew!"

Lily jumped, startled. Musi was wending around her ankles, twitching her tail in an all too familiar way. Softening, she scooped up the fluffy cat and giggled.

"Hungry? Let's fix that." she walked to the dormitory stairs, letting Musi down so that they could climb them together, "Want to help me take the salamander to Hagrid?"

Musi wrinkled her nose and climbed the stairs faster. Lily stifled another laugh.

"I'll take that as a no."

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): Any/all of the abilities she could have during her Sixth Year are applicable. The rest are obviously something she shows in the future. For example: love. (Not that she doesn't possess a great deal of love for her friends and family. It's just not connected with a Charm yet.)
Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: Her wand (Willow, 10¼" and Swishy), her pet cat (which I'll name Musidora (Musi for short)*) and her winter Hogwarts attire.

*Musidora Barkwith is the composer of Wizarding Suite in the HP world.

Personality: The Baron is, quite simply, mad. But the thing about it is that his madness isn't really the usual sort. It's more that he's entirely aware that the rules of reality - at least, reality around him - are entirely fluid. He is an optimist, a dreamer, and a believer in tall tales. Mainly as he lives them.

He's also flirtatious, rather keen on the ladies - and he has an unnatural charm that seems to make the ladies somewhat keen on him. It could be the utter confidence that things will go well. He is also a stereotypical do-gooder, and an utter believer in the concept of nonsense. He takes a dim view of people who hold too much to reason and rationality, and becomes depressed in a world in which there is no fantasy or mirth.

He is the epitome of the dashing swashbuckler, and one of those people who have precious little concept of personal space or boundaries. But he is also bold, ultimately kind, and loyal to his friends. He is, also, a charismatic leader.

Writing Sample:

"Well this is marvelous!"

The old man in the strange costume tottered around what he kept referring to as 'that strange craft', despite the name plate that said what it was, and all of its technical data. Frankly, he looked like something out of a Renaissance Fair, and museum security were getting worried - but not as worried as the harried curator.

"Where are the feathers?" he said, reaching up a cane to tap the metal bird's nose. The curator hurried to stop him, though he pushed him away, tottering off again, underneath it - and then up the ladder to the cockpit. "Come along, then, let's see what this is all about, what?"

Which was, approximately, when the situation went to hell. Later, when the dust settled - and the wall behind the SR-71 was repaired - the old man became something of a local legend. Granted, the fact that the plane had shot a few thousand feet down the local freeway made this rather more prominent in terms of it being a legend.

And the old man simply walked away - save that he didn't seem so old anymore, people said. That he strode off towards the setting sun, and that as he was last seen, people could have sworn that they heard the sound of a horse and a triumphant laugh.

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki): The Baron is technically immortal. At least in the sense that reality seems to fold around him and make it so that he isn't dead. He ages, however, in the absence of adventure. Once on the trail his youth literally springs back into place. He also can, on occasion, defy physics. Literally pulling himself up by the ponytail, for instance. But it's more that he is something like an improbability engine. Unlikely things happen around him. If you shot at him, he might just block the bullet with a sword, for example. This is balanced by a deep morose reaction to a lack of adventure, too much reason may literally kill him, too much of being held back from adventure.

Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: If permitted, his horse Buchephalus, his dog Argos, and his sword and cane.

Personality:
Luna is decidedly unique. That would be the kindest way to describe her eccentric and odd personality. Often very mellow and relaxed one could say she's utterly unflappable by even some of the most bizarre turn of events. Luna would say this is because it's "normal" people she doesn't understand.

She is very open minded and willing to accept a great many fantastic and impossible things as undeniable truths. An imagination larger then most could comprehend aids this leading people to question her sanity at times and earning her the nickname "Looney."

It's not as though she is unintelligent, after all she was sorted into Ravenclaw for a reason. She simply has a different kind of intelligence. She is strikingly clever in her own right and painfully honest to boot. It is this combination of traits that allows her to be good at comforting people when they need it.

Rick Grimes || The Walking Dead

[personal profile] theleader 2012-09-20 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Rick is a Caucasian male, approximately 5' 10" tall and about 170lbs give or take. He's should probably be a bit heavier, but he was wounded in the line of duty, he is in a coma when the apocalypse occurs. He's lean, tall, with an athletic build. Handsome with a strong jawline, green eyes and brown hair. He was a sheriff's deputy from King County, Georgia prior to the outbreak and normally wears his department issue cowboy style hat and uniform.

Rick is a 'good ol'boy'. He's intelligent, calm, a great father (his son is Carl Grimes.) and friend. He has flaws. While he is not a man of faith he is a man of vision. His vision for the most part looks at situations as either black or white and tends to lean heavily on his own personal morals, letting them influence his decisions; which do not often end up being the right decisions. Though, he is rapidly evolving into someone who is a bit more…realistic.

In the beginning, Rick depended heavily on the opinions of his best friend and wife. While he may depend on these opinions, often asking them what he should do, that doesn't necessarily mean that he always does what they say. He knows what has to be done, what should be done and how to do what needs to be done, but he needs conformation from those that matter the most to him to make sure he's making the right decisions. Eventually, things come to a point when Rick realizes that the good of the group depended on him being able to solely make the difficult decision on his own.

He's willing to take on new members to their group, the more people to help the better; even if the burden of keeping them safe weighs heavily on him. He believes that life is a gift worth cherishing and because of that he isn't afraid to make the hard decisions. He tends to lay the majority of that responsibility on himself. Possibly a throw back from his days as a Deputy, or may just be his personality, but Rick feels that it is his job to take care of everyone. He's the leader, even if not entirely by choice, and since everyone looks to him, does what he can to make the best decisions for the entire group, even if these decisions involve risks to himself or the others. Because in his mind the risks are worth the reward if there is even the slightest chance for survival.

Rick’s best friend, and for all intents and purposes, brother was Shane Walsh. They were partners before the Dead started Walking. Shane was the man who left Rick in the hospital and blocked the door to protect his BODY. Because he thought his friend was dead and he was going to do SOMETHING to keep those monsters from eating him. They were friends, partners. But most of all they were brothers, and while they may not have agreed all the time, they still had each other’s backs. Toward the end of Shane’s life he was not himself.. and Rick for what it’s worth TRIED his damnedest to save his friend, but no matter how much he tried to reason with him, to talk to him Shane had lost hope and left Rick with no choice but to kill him. There was a moment there that you could see him in that other Shane’s face. You could see him, but there was something else there that made Rick follow through with what he did, because you could see that he hesitated. He did. Even if it was just a blink he thought maybe… But he’d given him a chance he’d given him two. And Rick knew.. that next time he wouldn’t be so lucky.

It’s clear that having to do so had a serious effect on Rick it hurt him deeply to have to essentially put his best friend down. He sobbed and cried, he screamed in anguish over the body of his friend tell him that this was Shane’s fault, because he had to say something to help ease his own pain, even if it didn’t help him at all. He cradled his face. He watched him die and in those final moment he saw his Best Friend there. He saw his best friend in that man that was laying there, and at the very end just KNOW it was killing Rick that he couldn’t take it back.

They were FAMILY. They ALL were, Rick, Shane Lori and Carl. I could see them… having barbecues on the weekends. Rick and Shane watching football games together. Shane being there for Carl’s birthdays…And for something like that to come to such a horrible tragic end.. I feel for Rick. I feel SO bad for him. People say that Lori is the one person who he could count on to have his back, I think they’re wrong. I think Shane was the one person he could always count on to have his back and then that started to slip away. They started arguing more and more. They couldn’t agree. And Rick TRIED to save him. He did. That’s what makes this even harder. Even after Shane tried to kill him when they were trying to ditch, Randall, even AFTER that he STILL TRIED to save his friend. HIS BROTHER. (I’ve said that before but that doesn’t make it any less true.)

That’s the kind of man Rick is.. The kind of man that exhausts ALL his options before doing the one thing he was trying so desperately to avoid doing. Only when he had no other choice did he kill him. Because it was ALL he could do.

Rick manages to get as many of the survivors to safety after a herd of Walkers comes through the farm they had complacently make their home on. They had ALL gotten used to the idea that they were safe there and in one night they found out just how wrong they were.

Even after saving them and getting the group back together, because they still doubt him and at the very least one of the group (Carol) tries to get Daryl to stand up and take the lead against Rick. Which Daryl refuses to do because he believes that Rick has done everything he could do to take care of them. The others though.. they seem to doubt him.

All the THINGS he’s done for them? All the sacrifices he’s made? And they’re still ungrateful enough to question whether he’s doing the right thing or not? He’s right. He’s doing what needs to be done. For the GROUP. How can they not see that he’s been doing that the whole time? From the beginning.

And no, he didn’t ask for it, but they gave it to him and even though he was reluctant he accepted it. And he’s done EVERYTHING for them. For ALL of them. And still the stand there and question him. They question his motives.

This main argument arises basically because there are some who think that they should go back to rescue one member of the group, Rick refuses to allow it. He could have let Daryl go back for her, but in truth? He NEEDS Daryl not only for what he brings to the group in the form of protection, but now without Shane he needs someone to lean on because LORD knows he can’t lean on Lori..

No he doesn’t send anyone back for Andrea, because in the end is it really worth sacrificing the lives of the others to save one? In this world? It’s never better to risk the living to search for the potentially dead.

In the course of this heated argument, he tells them all that he killed his best friend to protect them, thus shocking the group into believing that he will do ANYTHING to protect them. And now they know. They ALL know, what lengths he’s willing to go to keep them safe. How far he’s willing to go to keep them ALL together. The protection he’s willing to give them ALL if they’d only shut their mouths and SEE him for the leader he is and not doubt him.

Rick is evolving, he’s changing but he continues to have the interest of the group in mind, and not just himself or his family. He realizes after they lose the farm that… they need to find a secure, place to stay. Someplace they can fortify and build on, and that becomes part of his new motivations.

Rick Grimes || The Walking Dead

[personal profile] theleader 2012-09-20 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Writing Sample: THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: The Walker surprised him, he wasn't expecting it to be out there in the woods. He should have known better, but after not seeing any for so long he'd grown a bit complacent. A bit too at ease. He was lucky he spotted it before it spotted him, and that it was occupied eating--well it looked like maybe at one time it was a rabbit? Or something of the sort.

He moved quietly stepping up behind the thing that at one time had been a man, but now was nothing more than a hollow evil thing. It helps to not think about who they were. Who they would have been. Whether they had families.. Even so, at the moment he brings the rock down on the 'things' head those very thoughts assault his mind and nearly cause his hand to waver at the last moment. The former Deputy grits his teeth and brings the rock down again, this time the sound of the the 'things' skull breaking is audible and it collapses grunting and groaning on the ground in front of him. No time to waste, he stands over it and bashes it over the head once, twice, three times more until it lays lifeless and quiet. The place that used to be it's head a battered mess of broken flesh, and bone.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry this happened to you." He whispers in a quiet voice. Normally the plea for 'forgiveness' is unspoken, but the brutality of this particular attack in his mind warranted a verbal apology. Rick drops the rock and wipes his hands on the front of his, at one time plain white t-shirt, not it's more a messy grey and splattered with blood. Time to move on. He needs to get back to the others.

FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE: [Voice|| Accidental and Failed!Private]

[Rick scrubs a hand over his face before he sort of half chuckles to himself. His voice is southern and slow, with an almost lazy quality to it.]

A journal? I s'pose I'm supposed t'put down my feelin's? Well, I've never been very good at explaining how I feel.

[He flips a few pages before speaking again.] For the first time in a long time, I don't doubt myself. I don't doubt my actions. For the first time in...I don't even know how long, I know I did the right thing.

That doesn't mean I have to like doing what I did. Or how it makes me feel. Because honestly? Killing him makes me feel relieved. I feel like I can breathe again.

He was my friend. My best friend. I'd known him since high school. He's the one who introduced me to Lori for Christ sake. He was there when Carl was born.

What makes it all worse? Is the fact that I felt like they didn't get it. None of them. [He pauses.] Daryl maybe. He's about the only one who seems to understand anymore.

But the others? They just didn't seem to understand that I... that I did it all for them. ALL of them.

[His voice is slightly watery, as if maybe he's on the verge of tears.] I miss him. You have no idea. I miss him so much. My friend.. I miss him terribly. Not the man he was that last night. I miss...the way we were before the dead started to walk. There's one thing I know.. There's no going back now.. I'm not sure if....that comforts me or... scares the hell out of me.

He'd like it here I think. He always was sort of lazy, having someone waiting on him whether they're ghosts or not, would be right up his alley. [Rick sighs.] I'd have a hell of a time keeping him from gettin' his ass kicked for being a total asshole though. I'm almost sure of it.

Character Special Abilities (can be a link to Wiki):

His position with the Sheriff's department means he'd been trained to use a gun. He has first aid training. Basic psychology, and in general the bare minimum in criminal justice training. No magical abilities or anything outside the limitations of a 'normal' human. He can use a variety of weapons, but his side arm is Colt .357 revolver with a six inch barrel. (In the TV series.)

Strengths: He's a natural leader with a strong sense of duty and obligation, his fellow survivors easily turn to him for guidance and instruction in the time of crisis. He's confident, even though he often doubts himself, he doesn't let the others see that. He and Shane have been partners for quite some time, which allows them to know each other fairly well, but there is a sense of comfort there that could be considered a weakness, since he often takes the ease with which they get along for granted.

Weaknesses: His overwhelming sense of right and wrong, and need to protect the weak often creates more trouble than it's worth as it tends to put him at odds with his wife, Lori. He is a man, and at times, like anyone in his situation, feels the weight of responsibility. Even if taking on the task of looking out for the other survivors wasn't entirely by choice, he feels it is his duty to do so. It's that sense of duty that is probably both his biggest strength and his biggest weakness.

Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: Colt python revolver, ammo, his hat, a police issue walkie talkie, pocket knife.

Character Journal: [personal profile] unerasable
Canon Point Character is Taken From: Shortly before the "present day" in the movie, when he's travelling around 1917 Amestris in search of leads on his brother.
Importing Game CR (Y/N and Which Game): N

Personality:
In a cast brimming with traumatic pasts and badly-concealed issues, Alphonse manages to stand out by being, all things considered, pretty well-adjusted. More than that, he's genuinely sweet. He's thoughtful, amiable, highly empathetic and almost unfailingly polite. All of these traits, in conjunction with a natural aversion to conflict, make him a born mediator - not to mention an experienced one, given how used he is to intervening on his more hotheaded older brother's behalf. But that isn't to say he's a pushover; he does have a temper, even if it's slow-burning, and although he may not be inclined to fight on his own behalf except as a last resort, he'll readily rise to the defense of other people.

On the other hand, his niceness isn't always necessarily a positive trait either. In fact, the same characteristics that let him get along with others so well can and do work against him. His capacity for empathy makes him trusting to a fault, and his dislike of conflict means he's willing to let the people he cares about get away with a lot, whether or not he'd otherwise have good reason to object. These tendencies don't generally make him gullible or naive as such - he's too intelligent for that - but they nevertheless leave him rather vulnerable to manipulation.

Manipulation of his actions or emotions, that is - his core beliefs are much less shakable. Al has a strongly codified moral sense, occasionally to the point of being judgmental. Given a choice, he'll always opt for what he thinks is right over what would benefit him personally. This makes him a foil to his brother in another sense; he doesn't just keep both of them together emotionally, he's also the one who makes sure neither of them loses sight of the bigger picture. Again, though, he can sometimes let his idealism get the better of him and neglect practical considerations altogether; this is a problem exacerbated by his amnesia, since he's forgotten most of his development and can't remember the consequences that similar decisions have had in the past. Moreover, he certainly isn't immune to his own moralising, which gives him a significant guilt complex - he's often alarmingly quick to beat himself up over his failings, perceived or actual. He isn't vocal about it, and it's not entirely negative in that it ensures he takes all of his responsibilities very seriously, but it easily leads to him all but breaking down if he's left to his own devices for too long without emotional support. Funnily enough, for someone who can keep other people figuratively anchored so reliably, he isn't great at doing it to himself at times.

Don't get the wrong impression, though - on the whole, he's a friendly, mature kid and remarkably grounded considering what he's lived through. Still, without his memories of the past five years, he is only a kid, and that can be taken advantage of.

Writing Sample:
On this particular morning, Alphonse woke from an uneasy dream to find a small, grey kitten perched on his chest, staring at him inquisitively.

Still disoriented, trying to recall why his head was resting on a bench instead of the bare wooden floor he seemed to remember hitting, he reached up to rub his eyes. This apparently wasn't interesting enough for the cat, which promptly sat down and started to wash its face.

Al smiled at it, a little weakly. What was an adorable fuzzball like this doing all the way out here, anyway? Mud on its paws aside, it looked much too well-groomed to be a stray. Not to mention well-fed - no wonder he'd felt so short of breath just before opening his eyes. And speaking of following that dream, he was pretty sure he'd need to get going soon if he wanted to catch the earliest train - but then he'd have to leave this cat on the street, all by itself.

"Let's take you home," he told it. It looked unimpressed, so he added, "I know, but it looks like it's going to rain soon. You don't want to be stuck outside in that if you already have somewhere to go, right?"

The cat just mewed. Good enough, he supposed.

He carefully pushed himself upright, cupping a hand under the kitten to make sure it didn't fall, then cradling it in both arms as he slid his feet back down off the bench. It really was cute - a wide-eyed ball of fluff gently warming his still-damp sleeves. If he couldn't find its owner in time...

But no, he had to try. He shook his head. "And besides," he said, standing up, "I think brother would get annoyed if he found out I spent money on food for you instead of me."

Yeah, he could try all day if he had to. The train could wait. After all, his brother wasn't getting any further away.

Character Special Abilities:
His most prominent special ability is one half of the series title - he's an alchemist, and a talented one at that. In this case, alchemy means reshaping or otherwise altering the composition of matter through the use of transmutation circles, which must be prepared beforehand according to certain rules. The most fundamental of these rules is called the principle of equivalent exchange, and essentially just states that he can't create matter out of nowhere. Another important fact is that human transmutation is almost always a really, really bad idea. Apart from those limiting factors, pretty much anything goes, though more complicated reactions will require more thought. In particular, transmutations don't have to conserve energy, for somewhat distasteful reasons that Alphonse isn't aware of.

A minor side-effect of studying alchemy is that he's used to memorising complex geometrical shapes and patterns. Not only that, he can draw them extremely quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

Complementing his alchemy, he has an extensive amount of martial arts training. His fighting style, like many of the things he does, tends to be careful and methodical.

So far, so unremarkable for the setting. However, due to his backstory, Al has the unique ability to alchemically bind parts of his soul to inanimate objects. Pretty much anything solid that he can touch or draw a transmutation circle around will work, but it's only useful if it has moving parts - legs, wheels, whatever. He normally uses this to create independently-acting golems, and can control a large number of such golems simultaneously while he goes off to do other things. However, the ability also allows him to "possess" a single object; it will then temporarily act as his body, which he can move, see out of and speak out of. For the duration of the connection, his actual body loses consciousness and seemingly falls asleep. Also, a fake blood seal will appear somewhere on the affected object's surface or inside until it wears off.

Finally, he's really good at locating stray cats... but that probably won't come up.

Items/Pets Characters Will Arrive With: A small amount of Amestrian money in a drawstring bag, plus the clothes he's wearing - the most notable of these are a pair of white gloves with transmutation circles embroidered on the palms (wearing them allows him to transmute things by clapping his hands together instead of preparing an entire circle each time) and a possibly familiar red duster with a flamel on the back.
