D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. and Other Factors
D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E.
D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. is the artificial intelligence unit that maintains the biomes. Due to a wireless communication system and various observational tools, she is simultaneously in all areas of the biome at once. She has no physical form, although she can appear to people in the biome via hologram; for these appearances, she chooses random images from her database.
D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. is, essentially, the one pulling the strings behind the scenes. She has control over almost every aspect of the environment's setting, including but not limited to gravity and the weather.
If you would like DOTTIE to threadjack you, please let a moderator know. All three of us can NPC her, although specific questions should be directed to Ishmael; if you would like DOTTIE to run a psychological evaluation on your character, please contact Lisa. Open DOTTIE posts will be put up approximately once a month; we encourage you use these if you're having trouble getting your character involved in the overarching plot, as they will often contain clues.
D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E.'s journal is
endobjectives.
The Nanites and Microchips
As all characters are baseline humans, they don't have any innate powers. However, DOTTIE creates their powers or magic for them through a variety of means, the most common being nanites, sensory-manipulating chips in the characters' heads, and changes to the environment.
Each character, even those without magic or superpowers, has thousands of tiny nanorobots in their body working at a microscopic level. In characters with no powers, these nanites are mostly dormant; however, in characters with enhanced strength or speed, healing factors, or other powers, these nanites are working constantly to inject chemicals into the musculature, supply extra nutrients from the outside environment, accelerate neural pathways and repair damage. There are no known side effects to the nanites, and they don't work outside the dome.
Each character is also outfitted with a sensory chip that is tied into all five senses, as well as some pathways in the brain to provide information. These chips can create or alter perceptions, including perceptions of each other and themselves - for example, the illusion of a character having fangs would be achieved by the chips augmenting the visual perceptions of the characters looking upon the fanged character, and the tangible and visual perceptions of the character themselves. These changes will feel totally organic to the characters and will be indistinguishable from reality, unless there is a malfunction in the chip. The chips do not work outside the biome.
The setting is manipulated by DOTTIE's control over gravity, air excitation, the weather, and more. She will change the setting to be more like what your characters expect when they use their powers - for example, if the sensory chip picks up that your character is trying to fly, she will augment her gravity settings so your character will be flying.
The nanites, the chips and DOTTIE herself are all tied to a high speed network and are in constant communication within the biome.
When your character is accepted, you will be contacted with further details about how your character's abilities work specifically.

Pink Smock Ladies
The Pink Smock Ladies are D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E.'s worker robots. They appear to be faceless female mannequins adorned in pink smocks, some of which are backwards or tied incorrectly. They lack any ability to verbally communicate and do not seem to have much basic intelligence besides following orders. That said, they do seem to have differing personalities; some PSL's trip over themselves to assist you, and some will ignore anything but the most direct commands.
While they do not have weaponry, they are very strong, capable of lifting several tons. They are also incredibly fast, although possibly not so fast as some of the superpowered characters. They can be deactivated by a strike to the base of the 'skull' and taken apart. D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. can put them into sleep mode, which is only evident because they cover the area their faces would be with their hands during this time. They mostly can be found doing repair work on any part of D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. that is damaged, and will not interfere with the tribe unless ordered to. They are not outwardly violent upon meeting them.
They obey D.O.R.O.T.H.I.E. first and foremost, and the tribe second. They do not obey third parties, not out of malice or spite, but out of apparent indifference.
